NORTH WEST PROVINCE

Capital: Mmabatho.  North West Province Principal Languages are: Setswana (59%), isiXhosa (6,3%), Sesotho (5%). 

Languages South Africa currently has 11 (eleven) official languages. English is one of these, and is spoken throughout the country. In addition to English and Afrikaans, there are nine (9) African languages that correspond to the nine (9) different tribal groups. These languages fall into four (4) groups, namely the Tsonga, the Venda, the Nguni (Zulu, Xhosa, Ndebele and SiSwati) and the Sotho (Sepedi, Sesotho and Setswana).

Climate and temperatures

South Africa is located in the southern hemisphere; the seasons are therefore the reverse of those in the northern hemisphere. December and January are the main summer holiday months. During May and June, autumn brings warm days and relatively cool nights. From the beginning of July to the end of September, you can expect cold conditions in most regions of the country. 

Forming, effectively, the southern part of the Kalahari Desert, the North West province offers almost year-round sunshine with towns in the western areas marginally hotter and those further south marginally cooler. The summer months (August to March) bring brief, refreshing afternoon thundershowers. The average rainfall for the region, with an average of 300mm - 700mm per annum.

Summer temperatures

Range between 22°C and 34°C (71,6°F and 93°F) and winter brings with it dry, sunny days and chilly nights.

The average winter

(May - July) temperature is 15°C (60°F) but can range from an ) to 20°C (68°F) in a single day. average of 2°F (36,6°) to 20°C ( 68°F).  The North West is all about the authentic African bush experience, and it is the hot, dry Africa that is truly unique.
